Temporary Translation adminship for Yug
[edit]See request available on Commons:Requests for rights#Yug. Yug (talk) 23:10, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
Hello,
According to community approved (LinguaLibre.org and Commons) and Wikimedia France funded mission, I'm mid-way migrating 8,000 pages to Wikimedia Commons. I'm now migrating pages marked for translations and I face userrights restrictions. Using Special:Import fails on translations subpages :
Importing pages...
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/bn" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/br" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/ca" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/de" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/en" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/fr" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/mk" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/nb" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/oc" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/pl" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/scn" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/sv" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Bots/ta" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Choosing a microphone/br" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Choosing a microphone/de" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Choosing a microphone/en" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Choosing a microphone/eo" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
Page "Help:Lingua Libre/Choosing a microphone/es" was not imported because you are not allowed to edit it.
…
I tried "a hack" to upload the root page, then request existing translation administrators to mark pages for translations. K i9t proven non practical : I typically wait 2 to 4 hours, then go back and forth if needed, so I may run my command. If there is an error, I need to restart the request and wait another 2~3 hours to fix the situation and import again. I believe one week access to Translation administrator user-right would simplify the mission at hand. I will be able to debug and solve without delays. Yug (talk) 16:37, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

- Krd hello,
- The Special:Import is not reliable. Ex: The official xml import size limit is 20MB, yet it regularly fails on 5MB files then at some point it pass. I split my xml files and monitor WikimediaStatus.net to increase my success rate. There are also layered import+mark for translation management of Translation:* pages. This rocky process implies higher chances of errors and I expect missing imports and errors out of the 8,000 wikipages at play. Those will appear in a long tail fashion, with most errors likely soon after Import, but beyond the 7 days window I've been granted. I therefore opened/will open a 3 months extension request for Importer rights on Meta, and would need a similar similar TA extension on Commons. For this, should I reopen a request or could we extend from here given the complementary information provided ? Yug (talk) 15:15, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Yug, your TA rights are permanent, only importer rights are expiring on 14 January. signed, Aafi (talk) 16:43, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
- Received, thank for pointing this out. Yug (talk) 16:53, 10 January 2026 (UTC)
